Project Title: Árbolito de la Vida – Connection Through Creation
Client: Comcast
Year: 2024
Overview
For Comcast’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, I was invited to create a special artwork under the theme “Connection Through Creation.” My piece, Árbolito de la Vida, draws inspiration from the traditional Mexican “Tree of Life” sculptures made of clay or ceramic, reimagined through my signature papercut technique.
Concept
The artwork serves as a symbolic tree where branches hold representations of Mexican culture and identity. Each figure and detail highlights elements that bring the community together—music, food, traditions, dance, crafts, and nature. From mariachis and folkloric dancers to artisans, cooks, and farmers, every piece of cut paper embodies stories of resilience, celebration, and unity.
The tree itself becomes a metaphor for interconnectedness: individual cultural expressions forming part of a greater whole. Just as the clay trees of life preserve heritage through art, this papercut version continues the tradition while introducing a contemporary, handmade approach.
Process & Outcome
In addition to the final artwork, I created a behind-the-scenes video showing the papercut process, paired with a voiceover where I described the meaning behind Árbolito de la Vida. This video was shared on Instagram Reels and TikTok as part of Comcast’s Hispanic Heritage Month campaign, allowing the audience to connect not only with the finished piece but also with the creative journey and cultural story behind it.
The project celebrated Mexican heritage while resonating with broader Hispanic and Latino identities, encouraging reflection on how traditions root and connect us across generations.
